Baby looks good!

November 16, 2009

I’ve been less than excited about my arch project lately. Sometimes less than others. But a few moments ago, in Aftereffects, I set the ambient occlusion layer to multiply over the full color and normal map render and it hit me: I thought it looked good.

Granted, I’m sure anybody could pick it apart if they liked, but I loved my project for all it’s loveliness and flaws finally. It’s mine, I did it and despite many things I’m pleased with the turnout. Will update with more posts in the next day or two, with pics and maybe some vids if I can get some mojo going on!

The end of the end?

November 16, 2009

So, how’s my finals goig? Let’s see…

Updated blog like I should? Hell no.  Done rendering? Nu-uh. Hi-res stills? Negative. So, you might think that I’m hopeless. I disagree! Sorta… I have hope anyway.

Here’s a shot from the final pass render, minus ambient occlusion!

Change in plan

October 22, 2009

So initially I was going to do a kinnari figure in the center part over the arch.

See :

The kinnari figure is a half human and half bird or lion creature found in much of Laos art. After a discussion with Professor Cookson, I am instead going with a floral type design also typically seen in Laotian art.

The above is the patten I am basing my own off of.

Progress shots

October 22, 2009

Progess shots of the arch from the times I did significant work (1 or more hours at one) on the project. The names include the dates that the snapshot comes from.

Concept Arts

October 22, 2009

The double image is both my initial sketch for this idea and the template I used for my final project pitch. The second is the image I’m working from in Maya. The third image is a quick and dirty mock up I did in Maya to give a 3-D idea of the space.

I need AA for slackers, but enough of the silent past of this blog. The next day or two will be filled with images, updates and other stuff.

Behold the promised images of work produced before this class:

I worked yesterday

October 1, 2009

I worked all day yesterday for this class but I forogt to post about it, haha. I put together my presentation and various other things. It really did take all day but I think it was worth it and it came out fairly well.

I’m about to present, I hope, so we’ll see how the work paid off!

Class *was* productive

September 29, 2009

So I talked with Cookson about my progress at the beginning of class and showed him my research. I also mentioned that I was leaning away from the traditional concept of the triumph arch (Roman) and wanted to go with what I thought was an Indian style arch. He agreed and so the sketching began!  Although I realized as I looked around the ‘net’ that I was mistaken and that the arch was Laotian. I think the name of it is Patuxay in Vientiane, Laos.

Here’s a link to a pic:

I’m not modeling exactly that, more like my version of something similar. But close….ish. Got a bit of work to do by Thursday to get this together and presentable as my final pitch. I’m liking this better and better 😛

Wait, its been two weeks???

September 29, 2009

Two whole weeks of class already? I’ve been working but weekend sickness has thrown me a bit behind schedual. And I still haven’t posted what I turned in for what amounts to my portfolio so far.  Hopefully this class will see me far along with my presentation for Thursday and playing catch up with both posting and putting images in this thing.

Presenting counts too

September 22, 2009

So before the rest of the peoples presented their ideas, Aram went over the rest of the assignments and the final presentation is important too. He mentioned that so far no one in the class got over a B for that category in the pitches, so that leads me to assume that everyone’s needs to be ramped up.

If I get the gumption, or think about it, it’d be neat  to take a shot from some part of working on the arch and making it a template for the presentation. Or making concept arts and doing the same thing. I guess I should do that for the final pitch as well. I don’t hate presenting as much as I used to, but I’m not that great at it I think either.

Was going to research yesterday but the net was down in O-house and I was lazy. Was lazy over the weekend too. I was a lazy S.o.B. (no offense, mom)

Need to start getting research and all, I want to have plenty of time to render and texture and make a superb presentation.  Aka, be done with all modeling by week 7.

That’s a tall order… but I gotta do it!
